Tellima grandiflora (Pursh) Dougl. ex Lindl. |
Tellima grandiflora (Fringe-cups, Big-flower Tellima) is a herbaceous perennial of the family Saxifragaceae. It is a native of most forests in western North America. Frequently grown in gardens, it has escaped and become established in some other areas, e.g. Great Britain. The small green, white or purple flowers are born in spikes and the petals are deeply fringed. It is the only species in the genus Tellima.
This plant, ground up, has been used to aid people in sicknesses such as loss of appetite.[citation needed]
