Television in Hong Kong

Television in Hong Kong has both free over the air channels and several subscription cable networks.

There are two free-to-air television services in Hong Kong:
- Asia Television Limited (ATV): operates one English-language (World) and one Chinese-language (Home) channel.
- Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB): operates one English-language Pearl and one Chinese-language Jade channel.
[edit] Defunct free-to-air television services in Hong Kong
- Commercial Television (佳藝電視), from 1975 to 1978.
- Rediffusion Television (RTV, 麗的電視), from 1973 (converted from subscription television service, Rediffusion Hong Kong Limited(麗的呼聲), to free-to-air broadcasting) to 1982, at which point it became Asia Television Limited (ATV, above).

Four cable television networks:
- Hong Kong Cable Television Ltd (CableTV): controlled by Wharf Holdings, operates over one hundred channels with programmes broadcast in English, Cantonese, Putonghua and other languages.
- PCCW-HKT Interactive Multimedia Services Ltd (NOW TV): provides sixteen free channels and over eighty pay channels with programmes broadcast in English language, Cantonese and Putonghua.
- Hong Kong Broadband Network Ltd (HKBN bbTV): provides over seventy pay channels.
- TVB Pay Vision Ltd (TVB Pay Vision): provides over thirty pay channels, included 8 TVB channels, and Celestial Movies, a movie channel which screen movies produced by Shaw Brothers (HK) Ltd., the parent company of TVB.
