Telekom Austria Czech Republic, a.s. is a subsidiary of Telekom Austria Group in Czech Republic. The company operates as an alternative telecommunications operator under the brand "Volny" (Czech word for "free"). Telekom Austria Czech Republic arose out of the merge of Czech On Line, a.s. and ETEL, s.r.o. on 1st October 2007.
The company Czech On Line was founded as an Internet service provider in 1995. In 1999, the company changed the Czech internet market by being the first to provide dial-up internet access for free.
In 2000 Telekom Austria acquired the company Czech On Line, a.s. and transferred it into an alternative telecommunications provider offering all types of fixed line telecommunication services.
The company ETEL, s.r.o. has been founded in 1997 and the company has been known as an alternative telecommunication operator offering services mainly in business segment. ETEL has been acquired by Telekom Austria in the 2007.
Today the company Telekom Austria Czech Republic provides broadband internet access (ADSL, SHDSL and Microwave ]]point-to-multipoint]] connections, foe example WiMax) for business and residential customers, voice services based on VoIP, carrier pre-selection or carrier selection (network code 1020) and digital TV service VOLNÝ TV based on IPTV technology. The company also runs an internet portal.
Telekom Austria Czech Republic is the sole alternative operator as a holder of a nationwide licence for the operation of an FWA wireless network on the band 3.5 GHz. The wireless access network is available in 50 towns in the Czech Republic and constructed entirely independently of other operators.
Telekom Austria Czech Republic also provides services on own highspeed network based on LLU (Local Loop Unbundling) in 17 major Czech cities (Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Pilsen, Hradec Kralove, Olomouc, Zlín, Liberec, Ústí nad Labem, Teplice etc.). It covers around 40% of all fixed in Czech Republic.
Telekom Austria Czech Republic holds the Microsoft Certified Partner certificate, is a founding member of the NIX.CZ Association, and is a member of the CZ.NIC and active member of the Czech Association of Public Telecommunications Net Providers (APVTS), including its AORTA branch.
