Teleidosaurus was the most plesiomorphic genus of marine crocodylian within the family Metriorhynchidae, and is known from the Bajocian and Bathonian of the Middle Jurassic.

The species within Teleidosaurus include: the type species T. calvadosii, T. bathonicus and T. gaudryi from the Middle Jurassic of France.

Other genera included within the metiorhynchid family are: Metriorhynchus, Geosaurus, Dakosaurus and Enaliosuchus. The genera within Metiorhynchidae considered to be nomina dubia are Aggiosaurus and Neustosaurus.
