Teleflip

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Teleflip is a free service which allows anyone with emailing capabilities to send an SMS message to a cell phone.

Teleflip was founded in 2003 in Los Angeles, California. Currently, the service is limited to sending messages to cell phones in North America. To use this service, one sends an email to <Recipients Cell Phone Number>@teleflip.com. For example, 3105551212@teleflip.com; (310)555-1212@teleflip.com; and 310-555-1212@teleflip.com are all valid email addresses. Teleflip is a free service, although SMS might not be depending on the carrier. The service has been featured in many publications such as the New York Times, PC Magazine, Seattle Times, and Popular Science.

Teleflip is also strongly anti-spam, however spammers have utilized the simple service to deliver spam via Teleflip's servers. In response to this, Teleflip has set up spam filters to block the spammers at their source.

Teleflip also offers a free service known as FlipMail that enables "dumb-phones" to receive their e-mail via SMS.
