[edit] About

Teldex Studio is Germany's largest independent recording studio. It is in the high end studio of international standards and is now finally available in the capital city. Offering all technical and acoustic opportunities and competence, teldex Studio complies with the highest standards - reaching from classical orchestral works to modern pop music, from radio plays to film music.

[edit] History

The US company Warner Music, part of the AOL-Time warner group, closed the labels Teldec Classics, in Hamburg and Berlin of Germany, and Erato Disques, Paris. With this, it seemed that now also the world-renowned Teldec Studio would have to close its doors. This studio had long become an international symbol for high-level recording technology, not only in view of the hundreds of famous recordings that had been made here, but also in consideration of the developmental work on techniques of stereo recording, Direct Metal Mastering, as well as DVD-Audio which had been accomplished here during the past years. Therefore, to three former Teldec-members, closing down this institution seemed unacceptable. In the face of unfavorable economic development, the former studio members Friedemann Engelbrecht, Tobias Lehmann, and Martin Sauer (Teldec's last Managing Director) founded Teldex Studio Berlin GmbH.

[edit] Re-Birth

Since January 2002, a close cooperation has been established with the French label harmonia mundi. Besides, companies such as Warner, BMG, Deutsche Grammophon, EMI, and Sony, as well as several independent labels, regularly execute their recordings in the studio. Not the least, teldex is also pleased to announce that the cooperation with the conductor Nikolaus Harnoncourt, which has lasted for more than thirty years, will be carried on. He will continue to make recordings exclusively with teldex Studio's sound engineers and producers.

From the beginning, it was clear that the studio's future could not lie exclusively in the recording of classical music. The necessity to rebuild the studio in order to also accommodate for the production of pop and film music was clear and was embarked on without delay. The studio's rebuilding took place from January to August 2003. In its new setup, the hall's legendary acoustics now can be put to use in connection with a state-of-the-art surround control room equipped with a 9072-SSL-mixing console and a PMC surround monitoring system. The acoustical interior has been done by Concept A and ACM and the studio owns what is probably the most remarkable collection of microphones in all of Germany.

[edit] Establishment

With such technical prerequisites at their fingertips, the competent and experienced teldex sound engineers are ready to realize innovative international projects. The participating musicians and recording teams find several spacious recreation rooms at their disposal. Therefore, augmented by a 5000 m² garden that surrounds the building, Teldex Studio Berlin offers a relaxed and inspiring working atmosphere.
