Tel Batash (Hebrew: תל בטש) is a tell within which was found archaeological remains of biblical Timnah. The tell is located in the Sorek Valley of Israel's Shephelah region near modern Kibbutz Tal Shahar and Tzora.
[edit] Excavation
The site was excavated by Amihai Mazar and George L. Kelm. Excavations began in 1979, and first uncovered fortifications and buildings from the Kingdom of Judah period, dating to the 7th and 8th Centuries BCE. Among one of the buildings was found a ceramic potsherd upon which was written LMLK. Not far from the tell on the edge of the Brook of Sorek are the remains of a Roman road as well as settlement dating to the Chalcolithic and Canaanite-periods.
