Tel Aviv Savidor Central Railway Station (Hebrew: תחנת תל אביב סבידור מרכז‎), is the busiest main train station of Tel Aviv, Israel. It is located on the eastern side of Tel Aviv, and was opened to the public in November 1954. The Station is also unofficially known as Tel Aviv Arlozorov after the street stretching right next to it.

The station serves most rail lines and further serving as a terminal for travel to all parts of Israel. In December 2006, the station handled a daily average of 30,500 passengers.

The station is located next to the 2000 Terminal on the west and the Diamond Exchange compound (of Ramat Gan) in the east, which is connected to the station by a bridge. Like all railway stations in Tel Aviv, the tracks are between the southbound and northbound lanes of Ayalon Highway.

It is named after Menahem Savidor, Israel Railways chairman between 1954-1964 and later the speaker of the Knesset.

[edit] History

The railway station was originally the terminus of the Coastal railway, which opened on November 3, 1954. Because the Ayalon railway did not yet exist, the station was located on today's 2000 Terminal location. In 1988, after the Ayalon railway was continued further south, the station's platforms were moved there (its current location).
