[edit] Several requests

[edit] Please clarify "rebroadcast"

In 1987, the City of Thessaloniki began rebroadcasting approximately 10 European satellite channels, causing an instant sensation and leading to long battles between the government and the city, as the stations' equipment was confiscated numerous times.

What exactly does this mean? Did they have 10 new terrestrial channels, or just one channel dedicated to rebroadcasting several satellite channels, each for a few hours per day?

[edit] Please clarify SECAM to PAL switch

The color television transmission system SECAM which had been used since the late 1970s finally switched over to the PAL color system wideley used in the rest of Europe in ~1992.

Did all stations switch at once? If not, which ones switched first, which ones last? Was there a grace period?

[edit] Please clarify status of digital

In early 2006, EPT began broadcasts of ERT Digital, a bouquet of three thematic television stations broadcasting digitally, currently in Athens, Thessaloniki and Central Greece (soon to be expanded). These stations are CINE+, SPOR+ and PRISMA+ (a station focused on the handicapped and those with special needs). Earlier in 2005, Alpha TV briefly ran experimental broadcasts in DVB-T locally in Athens, while in Heraklion, Crete, a regional network, Kriti TV, in conjunction with the University of Crete, has been operating experimental digital terrestrial television broadcasts for the past two years.

Does this mean DVB-T is still in an experimental stage, and "regular" broadcasts are all analogue? What is the schedule for conversion to digital?

The 2007 WRTH gives Greece's analogue shutdown date as being 2012, in line with an EU directive. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.223.19.182 (talk) 21:53, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Why "Greece and Cyprus"?

The two are separate countries, and always have been in the televisual age, with different broadcasting regulations, different dates for introductions of cable, new channels, etc. Surely this article should be split into Television in Greece and Television in Cyprus? Vizjim (talk) 11:38, 22 April 2008 (UTC) --I Agree. Should be split. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.7.70.184 (talk) 13:32, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
