[edit] Stylisation
As per Wikipedia:Manual of Style (trademarks) O2 should always be written O2, not O2 (when referring to the company in body copy or headlines). The 2 is only subscripted when used in the logotype. ed g2s • talk 08:41, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] anyone know
why the fixed line services on the isle of man went to 02 rather than BT in the demerger? Plugwash 03:30, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
-
- And yet another question, why has Manx Telecom in the Isle of Man not rebranded as O2 (Isle Of Man) Limited?

[edit] European?
Shouldn't it be "European telecommunications" and not "British telecommunications" since they operate throught Europe and are owned by Telefonica of Spain? 172.203.100.147 22:10, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
-
- You are missing the point, BT do not own O2 anymore, and as a result their only European operations consist of a few fixedline companies in UK (as incumbent), Ireland, Italy, and Spain mostly. They are stylised as BT now rather that British Telecommunications to reflect this. See the BT wiki article to see this. O2 have no longer any shareholding relationship with BT. BT's only wireless asset is a small MVNO business known as BT Mobile, which leases airtime off T-Mobile (UK) rather than O2 (UK).

[edit] Plc?
Is O2 still registered as PLC? I'm aware they're not trading anymore, but are they still technically public? - Рэдхот(t • c • e) 17:26, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
Yes, according to their website (www.o2.com): "Telefónica O2 Europe plc, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Telefónica S.A., 2007, Wellington Street, Slough, Berkshire SL1 1YP. Registered in England and Wales: 5310128. VAT number: GB 778 6037 85." Gareth Cash 03:06, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
Therefore O2 plc is incorrect as the company is now called Telefonica O2 Europe plc. So really the heading should be O2 not O2 plc. Stuartfanning 16:26, 8 February 2007 (GMT)
[edit] Telefónica O2
Since O2 is a disambiguation page, the O2 plc page should be renamed either "Telefónica O2" or "Telefónica O2 Europe". Viakenny 18:07, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Addition of Training Video
I came across a training video for O2 in the UK, does anyone have any objections in placing the following link under external links: O2 official training video siralexf
- As no-one has responded in a week and Dick is reluctant to help me I am going to add the link to the article. If someone disagrees with the addition of the Official O2 training video being added to this article, can you please explain your reason. Siralexf 17:13, 5 February 2007 (UTC)siralexf
- Siralexf, I'll stay away from it now and let people who know more about this article decide. I feel, however, that you still have not provided any explanation for why 4 or your first 5 contributions were external links to tallboymedia.com, nor have you said whether you have any relationship to that organization. Do you? Dicklyon 18:29, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- By the way, I just noticed that your non-talk contributions are still 100% external links. Dicklyon 18:37, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
I've told you around 15 times that I have nothing to do with the company. I'm a keen photographer and I search the web a lot and came across this website. I felt that the videos they provide would be a good addition to wikipedia. Lastly, you remark about 'my contributions' - i've only been a member for under a month, what do you expect me to do in that time? Also, you are incorrect about your statement that the are all external links, go back and read them again - and to tell you the truth i'm getting pretty fed up with this.Siralexf 07:55, 6 February 2007 (UTC)siralexf
- Good thing I'm patient, or I'd be fed up, too. You've just said a bunch of stuff that I have a hard time believing. Allow me to enumerate:
- I can't find any place, much less 15, where you said you had nothing to do with the company, until today.
- Being a keen photographer seems to be not a credible excuse for liking and pushing lame training video intros on the site of a company pushing video services.
- You say your contributions are not all external links, yet in your month of contributions I find not one other thing besides external links and talk pages, most about those external links.
- So how can you expect me, or anyone, to take you seriously? All we have to go on is your contributions. Give this up, and make some genuine contributions instead, and things will go much better. Keep in mind that adding external links is almost never a great way to contribute to wikipedia, and links from people who do nothing else will almost always be viewed skeptically and reverted. It's nothing personal, and not a judgement on the content, just the way it is. Dicklyon 17:40, 6 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Meaning of mmO2?
What was the meaning of the mm in mmO2, the former parent company of o2?
>> No one actually knows... It emerged as part of the Lambie-Nairn re-brand, and is rumoured to stand for "Mobile Media", but this has never been confirmed. MMO2 formerly ceased to exist in early 2005 when MMO2 PLC (The holding company of all of the O2 Operating Businesses throughout Europe), changed it's name to O2 PLC.
ProhibitOnions (T) 23:21, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
I was under the impression this stands for 'MultiMedia02. I will see if I can verify this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.120.90.59 (talk) 16:03, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Cellnet Logo
There is another logo that was used when Cellnet (Telecom Securicor Cellular Radio or TSCR) first started that looks reminiscent of a tortoise shell consisting of 6 hexagons placed around a central one representing the deployment of "Cells"Reynoldstone 14:16, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Cesky-telecom-160.jpg
Image:Cesky-telecom-160.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Demerger
I'm going to suggest that this article should be split into Telefónica Europe (for the over-arching Telefónica brand in Europe) and Telefónica O2 UK (the article dedicated to the UK business). At present, I think this article is far too confusing - it talks about the UK business, but then also talks about the rest of the business in Europe. ~~ [Jam][talk] 10:30, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
- I agree that there is some confusion in this article - some sections of it are too UK focussed. (Not surprising as I already put a lot of work into getting a heavily UK-specific article into a more objective one about the whole group) I, personally, would like to see some of the UK-specific bits de-stressed (or even removed) - I don't really have any care for these to be shifted to another article (e.g. Telefonica O2 UK Ltd for example) - but am happy to support it.
