Ted Ruth (born February 14, 1989 in St. Charles, Missouri) is an American ice hockey defenceman who was drafted 46th overall by the Washington Capitals in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Before being drafted Ruth played for the USA Hockey's National Team Development Program. He is currently playing for Notre Dame Fighting Irish men's hockey team. He was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Sergei Fedorov on February 26, 2008.
[edit] Fedorov Trade
The Capitals, seeking to return to the playoffs for the first time since the 2002–03 NHL season, traded Ted Ruth to the Columbus Blue Jackets on February 26, 2008. Having lost Center Michael Nylander to a shoulder injury months prior to the trade, and, at the time, having more than a few blue-chip blue liners in their minor league system, the Capitals looked to shore up their lack of a natural 2nd line center by acquiring Federov for the still young and unproven Ruth.
