Should the WWF Championship be listed among DiBiase's accomplishments? Granted there's a big "however" in parentheses immediately following "1-Time WWF World Heavyweight Champion", but since he wasn't officially recognized as champion and didn't win the belt, should that be there at all? I'm not arguing to remove the section in the main article that deals with Andre trying to sell the belt to him, I just don't think that his "reign" should be listed among his accomplishments. I'd have to agree with that. WWE.com doesn't recognize him as a former champion. --Chrysaor July 4, 2005 16:36 (UTC)
It should be noted, however, that Ted DiBiase defended the WWF Championship for a week on house shows until WWF aired the Jack Tunney promo declaring the title vacant. So, while WWE doesn't officially recognize him as a champion, he was introduced for that one week as the champ, and did defend the belt successfully. --Brandon Myers 06:41, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
If he defended the belt successfully, then he was the champion, as he would have been declared "The winner and Still the world champion" at these matches.
According to the title's history on WWE.com, he was never the WWE Champion. If that's the WWE's position, the it would be inaccurate to label DiBiase as being the champion. It would be substituting opinion for fact. It doesn't matter if anyone disagrees with the fact, it's WWE canon. Even if he held the title and defended it during the week, it's not enough. But even the WWF cannot rewrite history ... Biase wrestled as champion, from what I gather above, for two weeks. Whether should appear in lists however is another matter, but his claim is more valid than that of the Rockers or the Rougeuas regarding the Tag Team Titles. House shows are generally not considered "canon" in kayfabe.
Actually, the WWE can do pretty much whatever they want to do with their own championship. If the powers that be at WWE have decided that Ted DiBiase was never officially recognized as the champion, then that's all there is to it. It doesn't matter what anyone's personal opinion might be. Ted DiBiase being "awarded" the title by Andre The Giant was all part of the storyline to declare the title vacant so the tournament could be setup for WrestleMania IV. On the WWE.com website, DiBiase is not listed in the WWE Championship title history as ever holding the title. Since the WWE doesn't recognize him as a WWE Champion, then it can't go into the article. Odin's Beard 23:45, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
I don't know who put that DiBiase's WWF Championship reign is, quote, "in the record books," but that's completely wrong. Even if you want to argue that he was a de facto champion (which I don't think is supported either), his reign is definitely not in any record books. WWE's title history doesn't recognize it (see http://www.wwe.com/inside/titlehistory/wwechampionship/), nor do other records (see, e.g., http://www.onlineworldofwrestling.com/profiles/t/ted-dibiase.html). Even DiBiase's own website doesn't have a record of him being a former WWF Champion (see http://www.milliondollarman.com/titlehistory.html). That reign was never recognized and is certainly not in any record book.

Because of his other son, Ted DiBiase Jr., who is mentioned on the page.

Here's video proof of DiBiase using the Sharpshooter/Scorpion Deathlock. DiBiase tried a lot of finishers early in his Million Dollar Man gimmick before finally settling on the Million Dollar Dream.
