I like the article though I have a problem. Literacy is not the study of languages, literacy is a level of skill in one's own language. Traditionally, being literate indicates a minimal level of functional skill. The term seems to get mangled a lot to becoming synonomous with knowledgable when it is actually more a measure of functional skill. Likewise, following your analogy, technacy would be more akin to having a minimal functional skill level with technology, in the case of computers being able to operate many of the popular software packages or learning to operat new packages with minimal training.
Now I certainly follow where you are going (I think) in that you are describing a minimal level of knowledge of technology such that door is open for you to follow numerous endeavors beyond simply using it. And you are ascribing the term "technacy" to this collection of basic knowledge. I am just adding my comments because there is a difference between having the skill to use something and having the knowledge of what you are using. Maybe an idea of vocational literacy versus ???. See I keep wanting to use the word "knowledge".:)Syscore 04:42, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
