[edit] History

The Team started out when they challenged some girls to a netball match and won. Next, they challenged the ‘girls’ to a game of dodgeball, winning with ease. After this, Team Russ played the teachers at dodgeball twice and comprehensively won on both occasions.

[edit] Members

All the members are 16-18 and from Southwest Bristol Post 16 centre.

[edit] Original Members

The original members are players in the first netball match, they consist of:

There are also many people who are 'in the pipeline' to become players soon.

[edit] Kit

Team Russ has a pink kit with a picture of a ram as their emblem. Each member also wears a headband and wristband during games, which were designed by 'Snidge'. Originally, the players in the first netball match wore a white kit designed separately by each player with a marker pen and tinsel. However, this was replaced with the current pink printed kit because it was seen as more professional.

[edit] Trivia

  • The name originates from Russell (the manager) shouting out "go Team Russ" during the first Netball match.
  • The potential forfeit for losing the netball match was that all the Team Russ members would have to get the legs shaven. The 'girls' forfeit was to not wear makeup for a day or be the slaves of Team Russ for a week. Most of the 'girls' chose to be slaves.
  • Alix, a later member of Team Russ, actually played for the 'girls' team in the first netball match and after losing had to be a slave.
  • Sam Clifford scored all of Team Russ's goals in the netball match. This earned him his title of Captain.
  • During the early days, Team Russ was labeled as trouble makers by some teachers. However, this 'conflict' shortly ended.
  • Team Russ has developed a cult fan following.
  • Team Russ's golden rule is: "there are no rules...except don't make a mess!"
  • Team Russ has many sacred words, including: Savage, Vicious, Vile and Terrorize. These words are often used during team talks and from the side line during a game.
  • The team prefers to play with netballs rather than dodgeballs because they are easier to throw and catch, although they do hurt if hit.
  • Training often consists of everyone throwing balls at Matt.
  • Roy is known as the 'Artful Dodger' because of his skillful ability to dodge the ball.
  • Sam Clifford and Lee Ballard are both goalkeepers. These goalkeeping skills (especially catching, throwing and quick reactions) have transferred very well to the game of dodgeball. So much, in fact, that they are considered the best players.
  • Since Team Russ started playing dodgeball, the game has become popular in PE lessons.
