I tried watching this show last night on NBC and it blows more chunks than Mount Vesuvius burying Pompeii. I want my 22 minutes back. The only remotely funny thing in the whole show was the teachers drinking on the job which I've seen in real life. And that only got half a snort and not even a chuckle. Phil Hendrie's talent was wasted on this show. He needs to stick to radio where he's funny. And why do they have the time travel guy from Enterprise on this show playing some smiley, dopey wuss-bag? Every copy of this show needs to be shredded and burned immediately.

Teachers is a great excuse to quit watching television; permanently.

Pretty harsh. I have to wonder if you have some ulterior motive for your comments.

I don't think everyone shares this opinion, as I know I don't. I watched the show twice, and it got funnier the second time once I knew the characters. I'm optimistic about this show's chances, and I hope they call for a full season. I'll be watching it.

I'd have to agree with the latter review. Admittedly, pilots are usually on the dull side and subsequent episodes develope their characters and comedy more. I found the teachers drinking at school to be a bit over the edge (I am a high school ENglish teacher myself). Given that its from the creators of Scrubs, one of my favorite shows, and that it looks to put a humorous spin on life as a high school teacher, I feel a certain loyalty to give this show the benefit of the doubt for at least a season. Give it a shot, pilots are usually terrible and end up being not like the rest of the shows at all.

Yes, I'll admit I watch it primarily because it comes on after Scrubs, but I've seen a lot worse shows get picked up. Heh, wait till the people come screaming about how it's just another terrible port of a British show. Johnsorc 20:40, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

Where are the ratings coming from? According to http://www.neptunesite.com/news.htm, it got a 4.5/6 on 4/4 and a 4.0/6 on 4/11.

Teachers is a horrible show. I like Phil, but this show is not worth his talent. I tried watching the first episode, not funny, and just gave up on it. The ratings keep going down week after week. Phil will try and put a positive spin on it, but things dont look good. The lead is very weak, and Phil is not even funny on the show.

[edit] Not based on the British Show

The natural assumption is that the show is based on the earlier British programme, but I'm not sure this is in fact true. It's worth checking for sure. Kelvingreen 13:26, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

I've had doubts about that statement too, and have removed it pending a citation. ×Meegs 13:47, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
A few people have told me that they saw the original pilot that was pitched and it was a lot darker and more akin to the British series. Then again that might just be internet heresay, and had no real impact on the way the US version developed anyway. You can hardly compare the two, they're so different - so I agree with the removal. No, wait a minute - isn't it mentioned during the credits that the show is based on the British version? I'm quite certain I remember seeing this. Metathesiophobia 14:59, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
That's correct. "Based on a Tiger Aspect Productions, Channel 4 series, 'Teachers', created by Tim Loane." —David Levy 15:51, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
