[edit] Synopsis

In the beginning, a human wakes up and realizes he has turned into Squirtle. After digesting this fact a bit, he decides to join a Pokémon Rescue Team called "Team Go-Getters", along with Chikorita and Charmander. They hear of a mission to save Pichu's missing older brother, Pikachu; and the popular Team A.C.T. (Alakazam, Charizard, and Tyranitar) is busy rescuing Plusle and Minun from Magma Cavern. However, they will not be the only ones doing the mission. Another team called "Team Meanies" (Gengar, Ekans, and Medicham) will be doing it, as well.

Before they start the mission, Team Go-Getters swings by the Kecleon shop to buy some items, but are dismayed to learn that Team Meanies purchased everything in the shop. Later, Team Go-Getters runs into Team Meanies, and Team Meanies proves their namesake when Gengar commands Ekans to devour all of Go-Getters' berries, save for two Oran Berries.

Without anything to go with, they are called over by Kangaskhan who runs the Kangaskhan storage in Pokémon Square. She provides Team Go-Getters with some Pecha Scarfs and Corsola Twigs for the road ahead.

After entering the cave, Team Go-Getters later find Pichu who is confused and trapped behind a rock by Team Meanies in the cave Pikachu was near, so Charmander uses his Metal Claw attack to break the rock. He then goes to the Toolbox Squirtle was carrying to retrieve an Oran Berry to give to Pichu. After Pichu eats the berry and regains his strength, Team Go-Getters then allows Pichu to come along with them to save Pikachu. Pichu says "Of course!", and eventually they come out of the cave.

Suddenly, a Skarmory snatches Pichu and takes him to the top of the nearby Mt. Steel (where she had previously taken Pikachu). On the way to the top of Mt. Steel to save Pichu and Pikachu, the team encounters the Meanies, badly hurt from their battle against Skarmory. Despite how they were treated, Team Go-Getters show their good side and split their second and last Oran Berry into three, to revitalize each of the Meanies. The Meanies then turn over a new leaf and become friends with them.

Team Go-Getters goes on top of Mt. Steel and fight Skarmory, winning because of a Quick Seed given by Pikachu to Squirtle. Skarmory turns back to her normal self, and everyone sees Pelipper fly down to the Pelipper Post Office with more missions for the rescue teams. Team Go-Getters returns with Pikachu and Pichu, and after a bit, goes to the Pelipper Post Office for another excellent mission.

[edit] References to the game

This special makes many references to the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games, Blue Rescue Team and Red Rescue Team. One example is Skarmory, the first boss in the game, must be fought to save Diglett. In the special, Team A.C.T went to save a Plusle and Minun, in the game, Alakazam and his team are only there to fight Groudon at Magma Cavern.

[edit] Trivia

  • When Ekans eats Team Go-Getters' berries, Gengar says Arbok instead of Ekans in both the Japanese and English dub version. This was fixed in later airings.
  • The Shroomish in the Sinister Cave do not speak like the other Pokemon; instead, they say "Shroomish" as they would normally.
  • At the end of the episode it says "To be continued...", it follows with the next episode of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon of Time and Darkness which was already released in Japan, and was supposed to air April 21 on Cartoon Network. However, Cartoon Network's television schedule has yet to mention or air the special, not even showing it on the 21st as previously mentioned.
  • Ekans' voice seems to resembles an impression of Harvey Fierstein, coincidentally this voice is used to supply the voice of Butch.
