It is currently held by Mahara Okeroa MP[1].

With MMP in 1996 the Southern Maori seat was replaced by Te Tai Tonga. Whetu Tirikatene-Sullivan who had held the Southern Maori seat for many years narrowly lost the new seat to Tu Wyllie.
