[edit] About
The Girls began work on the album while touring the U.S. on their The Party's Just Begun Tour which began in September 2006 and ended in March 2007.
Group member Adrienne Bailon was quoted as saying, "We'll be making a real studio album, not a soundtrack. It's important for people to see us as a real musical group. We have all this great marketing around us, with the movies and other things. But we are a musical group." She also added that the soundtracks and Christmas album "don't count".[1]
Group member Sabrina Bryan was interviewed by Billboard Magazine and stated that the group was eager to showcase a more mature sound to gather an audience of older fans while keeping the lyrics clean for the younger fanbase as well. She stated that the group would work with some of the producers that they had previously worked with, while also exploring new producers as well. They also announced that they'd be releasing the album via Hollywood Records rather than Walt Disney Records, which was the record labels used to release the group's soundtrack albums, their holiday album Cheetah-licious Christmas, and their live album In Concert: The Party's Just Begun Tour.[2].
Group member Kiely Williams, describing the album, stated "It's like the first look at the Cheetah Girls apart from our roles in the show. … Just Sabrina, Adrienne and Kiely kind of saying what we feel … We actually co-produced and wrote a good portion of the album." She also confirmed that this album will be "a little bit more mature than what the fans are used to". She also described the music on the album as a blend of hip-hop and R&B.[3]
The girls also stated in the DVD to their In Concert: The Party's Just Begun Tour CD/DVD combo that, with this album, the fans will get to know them as "Adrienne Bailon, Sabrina Bryan and Kiely Williams" and not as their characters from the movies.
Also announced was that the Girls would open a new official Hollywood Records website after they approved the packaging for the CD as well as images for the website, and that the Girls wish to re-release the album with 2 CDs of material they recorded. Also, in an interview with Radio Disney about the album, the Girls commented that some leftover tracks would be used on The Cheetah Girls 3 soundtrack.[4] Later that same day he made the announcement that the first single from the album would be So Bring It On.
The girls confirmed to Radio Disney that they recorded over thirty songs for the album. They stated that some of the songs that were not chosen for the album may be used for The Cheetah Girls 3 soundtrack.
So Bring It On was performed at the closing ceremonies of the 2007 Disney Channel Games. The music video for the song consists of footage of this performance combined with clips of the movie Twitches Too, in which the song will be used.
Also recently announced, Fuego will be the second single from the album[5]. Group member Kiely Williams said she was interested in directing the video.[5] The song samples Lionel Richie's "All Night Long,"[6] and the video will be a "destination video" with a luau theme and will be filmed in an "exotic" location.[5]
The CD was released on September 25, 2007. Wal-Mart has a limited time exclusive-edition with a bonus disc of five songs, two of which are Spanish versions of songs that will appear on the regular album. Also a special edition of the album was released at Target which includes a bonus track and a free download for a ringtone.
The album debuted at number 44 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with 119,000 copies sold in its first week.[7]
