From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome!
Hi TBC, and a warm welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you have enjoyed editing as much as I did so far and decide to stay. Unfamiliar with the features and workings of Wikipedia? Don't fret! Be Bold! Here's some good links for your reference and that'll get you started in no time!
- Editing tutorial, learn to have fun with Wikipedia.
- Picture tutorial, instructions on uploading images.
- How to write a great article, to make it an featured article status.
- Manual of Style, how articles should be written.
Most Wikipedians would prefer to just work on articles of their own interest. But if you have some free time to spare, here are some open tasks that you may want to help out :
Oh yes, don't forget to sign when you write on talk pages, simply type four tildes, like this: ~~~~. This will automatically add your name and the time after your comments. And finally, if you have any questions or doubts, don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Once again, welcome! =)

COTW nominations
Hi TBC, the problem you are having with your nomination on Wikipedia:Collaboration of the week is easily fixed - you shouldn't go to the edit page to copy the nomination text, but instead just copy it off the normal page. Hope this helps, Talrias (t | e | c) 14:52, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
Featured article for December 25th
I noticed that you have listed yourself as an atheist Wikipedian. You will probably be interested to know that Brian0918 has nominated Omnipotence paradox as the front page article for December 25th. You can vote on this matter here. The other suggestion being supported by others for that date is Christmas, although Raul654 has historically been against featuring articles on the same day as their anniversary/holiday. AngryParsley (talk) (contribs) 08:19, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
- The article on omnipotence paradox looks interesting, I will check it out later on --TBC 06:15, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
Do you know telugu?
I saw you translated lot of Vijayanagar kings articles into English. How did you manage that? do you know telugu? Hatsoff and welcome to Telugu wikipedia --Vyzasatya 21:41, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
- I do not actually speak telugu and most of my articles on the Vijayanagar kings are not translations of Indian articles, but done through research of English articles and books on the subject (as well as European accounts of thge kingdoms). However, even as an atheist, I am still very interested in Hindu beliefs and I gladly contribute articles on Hindu history that I am familiar with --TBC 06:15, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
Ancient Rome AID
Hey,
I saw you nominated the Juno article for Collaboration of the Week Status. I wondering if you'd be interested in supporting Ancient Rome in the current Article Improvement Drive. It currently has the second most votes, and if it receives one more vote, it will most likly last an extra week and become the focus of the Article Improvement Drive. --ZeWrestler Talk 15:18, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
Vijayanagara Empire
hi TBC, great to see your efforts and enthusiasm in working on the Vijayanagara Empire. I've also just seen your message on ImpuMozhi's talkpage, just below my message. I'll definitely join you in your efforts but I may not be in a position to chip in right away. I'll positively be supplementing and complementing your efforts in abt 2 weeks time. Keep up the good work. --Gurubrahma 16:08, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
I'm an admin now!!
Hi TBC, I'm an admin now. Do let me know if you need assistance in any admin-related activities. My main purpose to drop in here was to congratulate you for the great work you've been doing. You should also start participating in other namespaces more often. Also, please use edit summaries and Show Preview button more often. I've already liked your work on Vijaynagar-related articles and am now impressed with your article on Hinduism in China. Hence, I'm awarding you a barnstar. Pl. work on the suggestions I've given you and you'd become an enviable asset to Wikipedia. --Gurubrahma 06:52, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for the award! Ill be sure to continue to contribute on Hinduism-related articles. By the way, congratulations on becoming a Wikipedia admin! --TBC 15:13, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
Wikithanks
Wikithanks to you, too, TBC! 702 edits in only one and a half months! You are definitely on your way to becoming an admin, soon. — MATHWIZ2020 TALK | CONTRIBS 22:31, 23 December 2005 (UTC)
Happy New Year
Hi TBC, best wishes for a happy new year. Sorry I could not acknowledge your msg on my talkpage earlier. Praudha Raya could be a title for all we know, as Praudha means adolescent in Telugu. I am yet to check the telugu wikipedia. I've noticed that you are creating articles for remaining Astadiggajas, though I did not notice the content. Go ahead and keep up the good work, I will be able to chip in only after a month or so. I suggest that it would be a good idea for you to add your name to WP:INWNB or atleast add it to your watchlist. --Gurubrahma 05:36, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Loid.PNG
Thanks for uploading Image:Loid.PNG. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}
.
Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you. --cohesion★talk 04:40, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
- This was one of my first images, and I forgot to tag it later on when I became more use to Wikipedia. Anyhow I've re-uploaded it with the copyright information. --TBC 09:51, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
Santa Fe Expedition
The two articles should definitely be merged. Let me know what you want to do. I've never heard it referred to as the 'Texas Santa Fe Expedition' but I'm not enormously knowledgeable on the subject --CharlieP 02:00, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
Great work
Hi, your welcome template is excellent but for these concerns. I would not advocate a "merge" list (though several task lists have it) as a newbie would find it very tough to handle the pressure of dissenting editors. The description for Reference desk needs to be changed. VFD and VFUD are now AFD and AFUD. Instead of "come here", "go there" may be more appropriate. Signing with4 ~'s is a significant instruction in welcome messages and hence must be made more prominent or featured in a separate section. Why not try Template talk:Welcome for some feedback? Your categorisation of the tasks and lists is awesome and I am definite that it will find widespread acceptance. btw, you may want to move your barnstar (butterfly) to your user page ;) --Gurubrahma 05:19, 13 February 2006 (UTC)
wikitopia images?
Dear TPC, your wikitopia images using the wp logo make my eyes sore; moreso than the other images on that page. I know it is a joke, but do you think you could find a more pleasing set of images to replace them? Cheers, +sj + 06:31, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
Oodles more languages
Hi TBC, I never realised there was a "wishes to speak oodles more languages" category. I'm going to add it to my own page. I currently speak English, French (both natively), Esperanto (fluently, possibly even better than French), a bit of Dutch, a spattering of Spanish and a few words of Latin and Slovak. I am a professional Esperanto teacher but am happy to help you learn free of charge. As you probably know there is a large Esperanto wikipedia, and the users there can get pretty extreme, but some of us are tame. Sumthingweird 11:46, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
User:Tbc
Hi TBC, would you mind that I add myself to the list on User:Tbc's page? I'm quite active on the Dutch wikipedia as Tbc since more than a year and when I wanted to create an account here too it was already taken, so I took Tbc2... Also on Commons I'm Tbc and on a few other wikipedia's where I'm able to contribute. Greetings, Tbc2 01:01, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks! I know it's a "free" encyclopedia but I didn't want to be rude or impolite or something. All the best, Tbc2 12:50, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the welcome.
I wasn't even aware of the talk thing until you pointed it out. ^_^

I did not think of editing a page here in Wiki before. However, because of this game(Ar tonelico), I began to edit. However, the more I edit, the more difficulties I encounter.
Thank you very much!

Template welcome
Hi! I just edited your welcome template in error, and first I didn't understand why. It turns out that if you don't subst: the template, any user who tries to edit a section that is headed by your template will in effect edit the template itself. I suggest that you modify your template so it doesn't include any '=' headings, or that you always – always – subst: your template. Thanks. --Eddi (Talk) 02:04, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

Your vote for deletion of article Bhai Makhan Shah
Dear Sir:
Further to your vote to delete my article, Bhai Makhan Shah, I would like to bring the following to your attention and present this for the record:
You may be aware that this article was tagged by Joe for speedy deletion because he thought that the article "appears to be a fictional story" at 2:58. He had however, failed to notice that the article began with: "Makhan Shah Lubana (also written as Lobana) was a devout Sikh and a rich trader from Tanda district Jhelum (now in Pakistan)..…" – If this was a fictional story, would it refer to "(now in Pakistan)"?
Further, mid-way down the article is the line "He then recited this Shabad of Guru Arjan Dev:" followed by the sacred hymn by the fifth Sikh Guru – Now surely if you are not even aware of the Gurus of the Sikhs, do you have the right to make any judgement on this article or any other article linked to Sikhism?
He was wrong but he realised his mistake and rightly and honourably retracted from that position. However, he did not completely re-evaluate his position as he almost instantly put an AfD notice on the article.
If Joe had the "well-being" of Wikipedia at heart, surely it does not take more than a few seconds to search for "Makhan Shah" on Google to see if this is fiction or fact! – If he had done this, he would have found 654 hits and the first article is at: www.Sikh-History.com – Do I need to say more! – I don't think you would find fictional stories on a history website. Under the circumstances, the comment by you that this is "original research" is unbelievable!! 654 hits with Google and you think that this is original research!! This is a record of historical events that took place in about 1620AD. And what is surprising is that User talk:Royboycrashfan are supported by you and User:Khoikhoi. Blindly following the leader?? and it "smells of original research or a school project" ??
Following my comments on the discussion page highlighting that this article was a example of a Sakhi (ie: Historical Record), which are very popular in Sikhism at 3.09, Jow quickly changed the article to AfD status at 3.13 saying that this was because "text is a Sikh story taken from www.srigurugranthsahib.org website". So in 4 minutes he had read the 2 articles of over 1250 words each and done a proper comparison of the two articles. I am sorry but I don't think this is how articles should be judged - Someone spending less than 4 minutes to evaluate an article that may have taken a few days to create from various resources. Why should someone who appears to have no knowledge of the subject matter, is completely anti-religion and has spent very little time researching the subject take such a step? I wonder?
Having read the Wikipedia:Guide to deletion, I believe that the comments made by Joe – "only that the fashion in which it is currently presented is non-encyclopedic" does not appear to be reason for articles to be deleted.
Further, he say that if the text was: "of great religious import, it would, I think, appear in some form on more than one website" – This is based on a Google search of the words: "Once while he was returning home". What he does not tell us is the Google finds the following:
"with his ship carrying valuable goods over the vast seas, his ship got caught up in a furious storm" in my article and
"with his ships loaded with valuable cargo, there was a furious storm at sea and his vessels got caught in it" on the other site.
Not quite the same sentence – let alone the whole article. So how can anyone say that "text is a Sikh story taken from" www.srigurugranthsahib.org site - is a completely mystery to me? I wonder why you have taken this step as it is totally unjustified!
I believe that your criticisms are entirely ill-founded and without foundation. Further, this appears to a tactic to discourage minority religions to have a reasonable say on this website and this type of behaviour will stall contribution from the minority traditions. The majority sects will dictate what goes on this site - even when they are completely wrong!! If that was your intention, I have no problem with that – just do it openly rather than using unnecessary stealth and poor logic!!! --Hari Singh 06:07, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Bhai Makhan Shah
I write to thank and commend you for your thoughtful response to the Shah AfD and for your appropriate suggestions to the article's creator on his talk page, which suggestions I have echoed there. I thought I ought to leave a message here lest my comments on the AfD page should prove insufficient to establish that never was my nomination driven by religious or personal animus; I think you will well understand the reasons for which I nominated the article for deletion (and for which sundry other posters ostensibly thought the article to merit deletion), as well as the reasons for which I readily recognize that tagging the article for sourcing, Wikifying, and cleanup might be better. In any case, these sorts of discussions are what AfD is for, I think; just yesterday, I wrote to defend an AfD on which I had voted keep against a suggestion that the nomination was vandalism per se, and I think my words may now apply to me as well. Cordially, Joe 06:32, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
Google search for "Makhan Shah"
Hi,
Regarding your recent comment: "As I've said before on the AfD page" - Well the first thing that you said was: "As per above" pointing to "smells of original research or a school project". This as I have said before is completely incorrect.
Now following this, things have changed as you said, "if you clean up the article using Wikipedia:Manual of Style and if you cite your sources, I will gladly change my vote to keep"
I would like to say that I have written over 400 articles for Sikhiwiki (http://www.sikhiwiki.org/index.php?title=Main_Page) and Wikipedia on Sikhism over the last 2 years. Most of these articles are in the "normal" style. However, when a Sakhi is told, it is told as a story. That is how these were recorded in the "Janam Sakhi"s which have existed since Guru Nanak in the 1500.
What is suddenly wrong with this style? Was there a reason why this style was used? And because of Wikipedia, this style has to change? Isn't there a need to preserve the style of the writing or should everything become bland and in third person. Is it our job to preserve history in some form?
It would help me if constructive comments were made rather than irrelevant and incorrect comments! I take on board the need to give "references and links". Many thanks to you for your recent words of help and for taking time to improve things rather than move backwards! I am much grateful for this latest help.--Hari Singh 07:26, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
Deletion of Chastity, Truth and Kinopanorama.
Your statement that the film is not important is lidicrous. The fact that the film was COMMERCIALLY released, exhibited, and written about in other publications, alone merits it's inclusion.
Furthermore, you miss out on the historical importance of the film, which was first Kinopanorama three-panel film ever shot in the former USSR by an overseas company.
Thirdly, as the film is being restored with a new release print and soundtrack for release in 2007, retains any current interest in the film.
Lastly, the entry was made by myself. I am not an employee of Mr Lasher. Statements to the contrary are inaccurate.
