Tavush (Armenian: Տավուշ) is one of the provinces (marz) of Armenia. It is in the north-east of the country, bordering Georgia to the north and Azerbaijan to the east. Its capital is Ijevan. The province once comprised part of the northwestern region of the historic Utik province of the Kingdom of Armenia. It surrounds the Barkhudarli and Yukhari Askipara exclaves of Azerbaijan which have been controlled by Armenia since their capture during the Nagorno-Karabakh War. The other cities in Tavush are Noyemberian, Dilijan and Berd. Berd is the center of the Shamshadin region where the late Ukrainian-Armenian painter Sarkis Ordyan was born.
Mountainous and forested, Tavush is home to many historic Armenian monasteries, churches, castles, forts, and khachkars. The noteworthy Goshavank, Makaravank, and the Haghartsin monasteries are all located in this region. Goshavank was founded as Nor-Getik by Mkhitar Gosh, an Armenian scholar and priest who lived in Galicia under Polish rule and wrote both the civil and Canon law for the Kingdom of Armenia and the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia. Haghartsin was built between the 10th and 14th centuries under the patronage of the Bagratuni Dynasty.
The region borders the following marzer:
- Gegharkunik - south
- Kotayk - southwest
- Lori - west
