[edit] Semi-protection proposal

You wrote:

You know much as I'm sure there'll be huge advances in what we know about Chuck Norris in the next few months, can't we just lock the article for a significant length of time until he melts back into obscurity again? This constant reverting is getting stupid. They should have a setting on Wikipedia to lock individual articles against anonymous contributors but not registered people... Or do they have one already I just don't know about? It'd be cool if there could be a setting to stop anonymous posters and registered posters with less than a certain number of edits on certain heavily vandalised pages. --TastyCakes 00:53, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

There is a discussion (and a straw poll) taking place right now regarding just this. You may want to review Wikipedia_talk:Semi-protection_policy#Semi-protection_proposal_v.02 for details. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 10:37, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Regional-literacy-bar-graph.TC.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Regional-literacy-bar-graph.TC.png. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. -- Carnildo 03:38, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] UBC Frats

You may be hard pressed to find it at another university? What is that? Who do you think you are? UBC is a public university and Wikipedia is all up for adding information to it to make it a better and MORE COMPREHENSIVE website. UBC has a very strong Greek system and it should be equally reflected on their page on Wikipedia. Ok maybe not the second thing on the page I’ll give you that but it should not be at the bottom of the page. Fraternities and sororities help build relationships stronger than most friendships and provide strong connections for after university. if you are not a member of the Greek system which by your reaction I’m almost positive your not you would have no idea about this.

[edit] License tagging for Image:Albino gorilla.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Albino gorilla.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 17:05, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Coconut99 99

Hey, there. I've noticed this guy is hitting other articles and blanking, adding POV tags for petty reasons, etc. If you want to start an admin referal process (I don't know how to do that), I'll add my support to it. I'll also get people from the other articles to add their support. He isn't going to listen to reason from what I can see. John Smith's 21:30, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Ya it could probably use an admin. I have a feeling he'll just get bored and leave after a while though. I'm not sure how to refer to an admin either.. I'll try and find out. TastyCakes 21:39, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
I've asked for mediation. Would you like me to add your name to it? John Smith's 21:41, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
Sure. Looks like its getting a little heated.. ;) I've also left a message for an admin, don't know if they'll get back to me. TastyCakes 21:42, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
I would really appreciate it if you could stick with this, as he doesn't seem to want to leave it, unlike many other "unhelpful" editors. I was a little angry, but really he is being unreasonable to demand a reference for everything. John Smith's 21:56, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:All_Red_Line_Map_1902.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:All_Red_Line_Map_1902.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Syncrude mildred lake plant.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Syncrude mildred lake plant.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. 193.248.38.124 01:43, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Non-free use disputed for Image:Sts logo.jpg

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Sts logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:11, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Duplicate images uploaded

Thanks for uploading Image:Life expectancy world map2.png. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you also uploaded the same image under the name Image:Life expectancy world map2.PNG. The copy called Image:Life expectancy world map2.PNG has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone, and you do not need to respond. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and refer to 'my contributions' to remind yourself exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 16:15, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Purdys-logo.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Purdys-logo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 03:25, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Purdy's

A tag has been placed on Purdy's requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Thedarxide (talk) 13:56, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Purdys-logo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Purdys-logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 20:18, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:TR-55.gif

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:TR-55.gif. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 23:41, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Africa Oil Corp.svg

Image Copyright problem

Hi TastyCakes!
We thank you for uploading Image:Africa Oil Corp.svg, but there is a problem. Your image is currently missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. Unless you can help by adding a copyright tag, it may be deleted by an Administrator. If you know this information, then we urge you to add a copyright tag to the image description page. We apologize for this, but all images must confirm to policy on Wikipedia.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks so much for your cooperation.
This message is from a robot. --John Bot III (talk) 17:24, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Ryder Scott

The article Ryder Scott has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article seemed to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the notability of the subject may be deleted at any time. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.

Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and for specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for musicians, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. NawlinWiki (talk) 20:17, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

  • If you have sources showing that this company is notable per WP:CORP, feel free to repost. NawlinWiki (talk) 20:32, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
      • The article still doesn't cite independent sources to show the company's notability. The company's own website isn't independent. I've placed a proposed deletion tag on the article; if you add independent sources, feel free to remove it. NawlinWiki (talk) 20:58, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

If you object to the PROD nomination of Ryder Scott, you can just remove the PROD tag on it, although an explanation in the edit summary is recommended. But then, expect the article to go to WP:AFD if you can't provide sources. Corvus cornixtalk 21:15, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Enrolmentbysubject.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Enrolmentbysubject.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

What possible motive do you have for placing the word hollow in quotes and removing valid content?

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hollow - 5. without real or significant worth; meaningless: a hollow victory.

From what I can see from your edit history, you seem to have a boner for articles revolving around the oil industry. I'm REMOVING the quotes you put around the word hollow as you have no valid reason for having them there. If you don't like that, go chew glass. Jerkface03 (talk) 20:25, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
