Taster is a 7" single released by the band Grandaddy in 1995 on the Get-Go label. The song first appeared on their 1994 album Complex Party Come Along Theories and was later released on their EP, A Pretty Mess by This One Band.
The song details the paradoxical nature of food tasting as a profession. Job success is measured by detecting poisonous or harmful food which, though heroic, leads to death. This song is an homage to "tasters" who put their lives on the line, but when they die in the line of duty become "automatic saints."
