A general election for the House of Assembly was held in the Australian state of Tasmania on May 6, 1950.

Going into the 1950 election, the Labor Party was lead by incumbent Premier Robert Cosgrove. The Liberal Party replaced Neil Campbell as leader with Reginald Townley in February 1950.

Labor retained its 15 seats in the House of Assembly, and the Liberals regained two seats which were previously held by independents. As at the 1948 election, Robert Cosgrove and the Labor Party remained in government with the support of independent MHA William Wedd.
