Tariqabjotu is the pseudonym for a member of the Class of 2011 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he plans to seek a bachelor's degree in civil engineering while also studying urban planning and/or international relations. His first name is not Tariq and his last name is not Abjotu. He has been a member of Wikipedia since June 26, 2005, an administrator since November 17, 2006, and a mediator for the Mediation Committee since September 2, 2007.
Tariqabjotu was born on December 25, 1988, in Boston but lived thirty miles north in Dracut, Massachusetts. After living there for nearly eight years (and going to school in Pelham, New Hampshire for two years), he moved to Silver Spring, Maryland. As a result of the move, he had gone to four different elementary schools in four consecutive school years.
For as long as he can remember, he has been interested in traveling, maps, and the weather. Tariqabjotu has traveled extensively throughout the United States with his family and school, to places as far as San Francisco, the Grand Canyon, and St. Augustine, Florida. However, that's not good enough for him; his only trips outside of the United States have been to London, Paris, Montreal, Toronto, and Windsor, Ontario. He hopes to see more of the world in the future; specifically, he would like to travel to Moscow, Hong Kong, Dubai, and Tokyo. Regarding the other two prescribed interests... one of his summer hobbies is hurricane tracking and he has (for the most part) memorized the Interstate Highway System. Perhaps one could see why he has taken such an interest in civil engineering and, tangentially, urban planning.
Beginning in 2004, the year before he joined Wikipedia, Tariqabjotu began soul-searching, taking an interest in Islam. A year later, in July 2005, he became a Muslim. Today, however, he does not profess full adherence to any religion as he now finds it too dogmatic for his philosophy. Nevertheless, Tariqabjotu remains greatly interested in Islamic ideals, while devoting time to studying and applying Jewish, Islamic, and Buddhist beliefs. Tariqabjotu strongly believes in religious pluralism and the concept of world citizenship. He consequently strives to keep his contributions on Wikipedia (and elsewhere) as objective as possible. Unfortunately, being one hundred percent devoid of bias is just about impossible.
Tariqabjotu's contributions have included extensive work on two featured articles, the nomination of a featured picture, and an article for the Main Page's "Did You Know":
