[edit] Land Use
Tarneit is mostly used as agricultural grazing land, but this is changing due to urban sprawl coming from nearby suburbs, such as Hoppers Crossing and Werribee, happening mostly in the southern region of Tarneit.
Tarneit already has a secondary school within its boundaries, known as Thomas Carr. A lot of residential growth is occurring in the Thomas Carr district, with other schools and shopping centres planned for construction. Wyndham Village Shopping centre, in the suburb's South, was completed in 2005 to serve the exploding population in the immediate area, especially in the residential developments of Rose Grange and Seasons. Existing Bus Routes in the area have recently been altered and now better serve the suburb. In the next ten years, Tarneit and other suburbs such as Truganina are expected to grow rapidly as more established City Of Wyndham suburbs are exhausted for land space.
[edit] Transportation
In the more barren agricultural areas of Tarneit, the roads are yet to be sealed and are often muddy in rainy weather, such as Leakes Road, which was a dry weather only road. Leakes Road has recently under gone redevelopment and is now sealed from Fitzgerald Road to Derrimut Road with the last say 2 kilometres still to be sealed to reach Tarneit Road, and provides a link From the industrial areas of Altona North and Laverton North to Tarneit and Hoppers Crossing. It is planned to ease traffic congestion on Sayers Road, which services Hoppers Crossing commuters travelling to and from the city. In peak hour the road is often a traffic nightmare for locals.
Unfortunately there is virtually no Public Transportation. Land reservation for a bus or rail transit link will be underway by 2008, however, rail is favoured. A rail line that will connect with the existing Werribee line is favoured.
[edit] Population
The population of Tarneit in 2006 was 6,669 persons. Although growth in this area leads to predictions of Tarneit's population booming in coming years.
