Tarik Sektioui (born 13 May 1977 in Fès), commonly known as Tarik, is an international football player currently with Portugal's FC Porto. He is a Morocco international, who plays as a winger, and is best known for his good control of the ball, good technique and speed.

[edit] Club career

Sektioui played two seasons at French club AJ Auxerre, where he was very successful. He was one of the MVP nominees in the 1998-99 French Ligue 1.

He arrived at The Netherlands and Tilburg's Willem II in January 2000, from Swiss outfit Neuchâtel Xamax, playing a major role with the club, eventually gaining club captaincy. In 2004-05, he switched to AZ Alkmaar. There, he scored vital goals on the right as a winger. He formed a deadly partnership with Shota Averladze and was scouted by Stade Rennais and Borussia Dortmund.

After an uneventful loan stint in 1999 with CS Marítimo, on July 2006, Sektioui returned to Portugal, after Co Adriaanse (also his coach at Willem) retrieved him from AZ to join giants FC Porto. He would find the adjustment difficult and spent the second half of the season on loan to yet another Dutch club, RKC Waalwijk. On February 3, 2007 he played his first match for RKC against NAC Breda.[1]

Even though Adriaanse was gone, Sektioui was recalled by Porto for 2007-08 and was a key member of the squad coached by Jesualdo Ferreira that retained the league title with five matches remaining. On the fourth day of the UEFA Champions League 2007-08, he scored, arguably, the best goal of the night, overtaking five Olympique de Marseille defenders before hitting home beyond the goalkeeper. FC Porto eventually reached the round of 16 match, ousted by Schalke 04 on penalties.

having won no trophies or medals he is still considered as a good player for his country.
