Tarcento (Friulian Tarcint, Slovenian Čenta) is a town and municipality (comune) in the province of Udine, in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of north-eastern Italy.
[edit] History
Tarcento appears in history around the year 1000 CE by a German nobleman who founded the castle around which the town later developed. Subsequently a second castle was built by the Caporiaccio feudal family. Both the castle were damaged during the wars for the possession of the area between the Holy Roman Empire and the Republic of Venice, and by the 1511 earthquake.
Another earthquake in 1976 almost entirely destroyed the town.
