Taradale High School is well resourced with modern facilities which include a learning support centre, a gymnasium, a music and drama suite, four computer suites, an extensive technology complex and an attractive environment with extensive sports grounds. A state of the art food technology / hospitality facility was commissioned in 2006 and has since been completed along with a dance studio as part of a major gymnasium refit.
[edit] Broomstick case
Taradale High School received unfavourable attention nationally when six pupils sodomised another student with a broomstick at a party at one of the students homes on the evening ofOctober 17, 2001. The boys were convicted of sexual assault and forced to serve jail sentences of between 2 and 2.5 years. The incident led to issues in following years such as students from other schools referring to Taradale as 'Broomsdale Highschool'.[2][3]
[edit] Student Support
Taradale High School has a long running tradition of having student leaders to help with tasks and leadership roles around the school. But this did not stop the entire region being in shock after what can only be regarded as 'the broomstick incident'. The school support system was in disarray after this incident and the schools reputation has never fully recovered, though recent roll growth would indicate that much of the stigma has faded.
