Tara Jaff

Tara Jaff, (1958- ), is a prominent contemporary Kurdish musician specializing in harp. Her family background is from Halabja and she was born in Baghdad. She studied classical music and piano at Baghdad's Musical Academy. In 1976, after being forced of school by the Ba'ath party, she moved to UK to continue her studies, where she joined a Chilean music band as a singer. Over the last thirty years, she has made a great effort in introducing the contemporary celtic harp to Kurdish folk music. Along with Fran Hazelton and June Peters, She has founded Zipang, i.e., Mesopotamian Storytelling Workshops. Tara Jaff is also a member of the organising committee of the annual London Kurdish Film Festival.
