This is for the Administrator. There are two articles on the same individual, one named Tarashankar Bandopadhyaya and the other Tarashankar Bandopadhyay. The spelling of the surname is wrong in both cases, the correct spelling being "Bandyopadhyay". There should be some measures to prevent duplicate articles. The following humble suggestion is for Bengali Hindu names only. The rule of arbitrary spelling of proper noun is not to be considered here. English spelling of Bengali names are not really fit for this because these are merely English transliteraion of original Bengali names. Moreover, unlike Western names, Bengali first names are meaningful words in the name-holder's language and can be found in dictionaries. Therefore arbitrary spelling cannot be done. An official rule for standardisation of English transliteration of Bengali names is in existence and educational authorities enforce it in the educational certificates. Many common Bengali surnames have anglicised versions, a legacy from the British India. Some common Bengali surnames and their anglicised versions are given below.

Surname Anglicised Version
Bandyopadhyay Banerjee
Mukhopadhyay Mukherjee
Chattopadhyay Chatterjee
Gangopadhyay Ganguly
Basu Bose
Ray Roy

Therefore, a rule of standardisation of spelling should be adopted for Wikipedia to facilitate easy search & to prevent duplicate entry and if any article is categorised under anything related to Bengal or Bengali, a message should be flashed to the initiator indicating the correct spelling which should also include the name of the article. Very correct spelling will also lead to difficult search, e.g., Deep Jwélé Jaai, a Bengali movie. The use of diacritical marks like breve or acute which is used in French and not in case of Indian languages and double vowels to indicate the long vowel makes it a difficult search. Therefore, standardisation is necessary. Hrishikes 07:27, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

The statement that he is one of the five major Bandopadyay's in Bangali Literature is misleading. Anyone who is a minor writer with title Bandhopadyay could claim that he is a major writer. If this needs to be stated, or If Banerjee trio is to be stated, please include references as well. Simynazareth (talk) 18:06, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
