[edit] about superhero infobox data

You can think I am a bit naiv, but does this Fabian relative of Black Tarantula's has anything to do with Fabian Cortez where the disambiguation page links to? Lajbi 15:52, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

  • Ooh, and by the way, does "inactive" mean that he is deceased or just haven't appeared in comics panels for a while, but in this case we should mark it "uncertain", because we can't know what is the writers' intents with him.Lajbi 15:56, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
    • I also think the word "regenerate" is kinda ambiguous. It can be used as a reflexive verb for "to heal oneself" as well as a transitive verb "to reproduce sg". So an organ can regenerate, but a wound not. But maybe I'm mistaken... Lajbi 16:07, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
      • I had created the profile for Black Tarantula and when I put it on the Tarantula's page I realized that it was a character that had nothing to do with him. I apologize and it's my first time editing a page.
        • No, it's okay. It fits the article. Fine like this. Thanks for having it reformatted. Lajbi 12:06, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ultimate Tarantula

Anything outside of stating that BMB said "Ultimate Tarantula" will appear in the Clone Saga arc of Ultimate Spider-Man is speculative and/or rings of independent analysis (e.g. "Well, he looks like he could be the Tarantula"). Either way, it's a breach of policy (either WP:NOT or WP:NOR. Any attempts to add it again without discussing first is vandalism. --NewtΨΦ 04:46, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Compromise and comparison

I recognize the unregistered user that has been editing the Ultimate Tarantula section wishes to be as informative as possible, so I'm wondering if there's anything we can do to help them. I'd like to think that we all can be reasonably sure that the character in question is the Ultimate Tarantula, so is there any way that we can list a comparison of that character with the other Tarantulas or is that OR? I've seen and gotten away with comparison in articles in the past. If not, I guess we can move on and keep patrolling. --PsyphicsΨΦ 16:27, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Without a source where Marvel calls the character Tarantula, yeah, it's OR. It wouldn't even be that useful because he has little in common with 616 Tarantulas. Even at that, we would still have to note that the character has not been called that in the comics because, as our comics editing guidelines stress, it's not official till it appears in the comics (remember Hawk/Monarch and Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn). A decent source noting that many fans think the character is Tarantula would be okay as long as the source is properly cited and little more is said about the character than that. It is a fact that fans think the character is the Tarantula. It is not an established fact that the character is the Tarantula. Doczilla 23:52, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ultimate character w/ 4 arms and black costume.

1) The image shouldn't be include as the character has not bee identified in story by the name "Tarantula", nor has a name be explicitly used by the publisher or writer to identify it.

2) The image itself should either be renamed or deleted on the same grounds.

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:ASM134Cover.jpg

Image:ASM134Cover.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Additional re the Ultimate universe

The following revised text has been proposed for the section:

Writer Brian Michael Bendis stated in Wizard Magazine that an Ultimate version of Tarantula was set to appear in the "Clone Saga" arc of Ultimate Spider-Man.[1] Although the story arc introduces several new spider-powered characters, none are identified as the Tarantula. The black costume worn by a six-armed Spider-Man clone (reportedly dead as of Ultimate Spider-Man #103) bears a spider-logo similar to Alvarez's; also, like the second Tarantula, he had been mutated to possess spider-like eyes (which endow him with night vision), fur, and venomous fangs. He tried to save Mary Jane from an evil Spider-man clone called Kaine", only to be impaled on a metal pipe by his own creator, the Ultimate version of Doctor Octopus. In Ultimate Secrets 2008 his identity was officially confirmed as Tarantula in his Marvel Handbook entry.

Can someone aside from the editor that has been inserting this into the article verify the "Ultimate Secrets" as a source for the character's name?

Yea..I actually bought a copy at my local comic shop..It is esentially guide (Like the Marvel handbook for...) for lesser known Ulitmate characters like Ultimate Bishop, that two headed guy Syndicate from Ultimate X-Men, Ultimate Spider-Woman and the other Spider clones (Scorpion, Tarantula, and Kain). It lists the Black Six-armed Sider-clone as the Tarantula, that his first appearance as tarantula was Ultimate Spider-man 100. I know he wasn't called tarantula in the series..but we do seem to use Marvel handbook info in articles about lesser known characters..such as Agony getting renamed Leslie Genaria after the Official Marvel Handbook Spider-man Back in Black came out.
