Omega Squad: Targets

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Omega Squad: Targets is a short story by Karen Traviss that first appeared in Star Wars Insider issue #81. It was later reprinted in the end of the book Star Wars Republic Commando: Triple Zero. It describes a mission on Coruscant in which a group of terrorists from the planet Haruun Kal is keeping hostages in a space port. They demand that the Republic leave their planet so they can stay out of the war or else they will kill the hostages with explosives (which turn out to be fakes). The main characters are Omega Squad: RC-1309 Niner, RC-1136 Darman, RC-8015 Fi and RC-3222 Atin. A Jedi comes to negotiate the surrender but only gets killed and the body thrown out with a bomb attached to it. Fi jumps on top of the bomb before it can detonate, shielding the police with his armor. Luckily the armor protects him too and he is regarded as a hero for saving the men and gains the respect of N-11 Null ARC trooper Ordo. This is also when the character Kal Skirata enters. Skirata is the man responsible for training some of the Republic Commandos including all of Omega except for Atin. The squad after watching the video captured by a camera on the Jedi figured out that the terrorists would be in colored coded clothes green, gray, tan and dark brown.

The squad then begins the attack. N-11 Ordo covers the roof as Darman sets explosives to destroy the door that protects the terrorists. Then Fi throws some flash bangs in to stun the terrorists and upon entering shoots the green one in the chest. Atin takes out the gray one out and Darman and Niner take out the dark brown one. But the terrorists had switched the clothes of a hostage with the tan man and only by shielding the hostage does Skirata keep Fi from shooting. Then Ordo seeing one the one in the hostages clothing with a gun kills him. Later it was discovered that the hostage who had been framed was an important executive for the Corporate Sector, people with a lot of money and armaments. And that the terrorists were trying to get the hostage shot because then CorSec would have sided with the CIS. All the hostages are rescued, including a Senator who was the bait to attack the terrorists, and CorSec did not lose the executive.
