Taonga or Tawonga is a word from among some languages of Eastern Province of Zambia, meaning "we are grateful". Taonga is also given as a name to people. It may exist in various forms such as Wongani (Give thanks). The word root is probably '-onga' 194.80.32.8 17:11, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

I would suggest editing the intro to make it clear that the article is about the subject, the role of a taonga in Maori culture and society, rather than being about the word. Otherwise someone might recommend it for deletion under the impression that it's just a dictionary definition. One might look at the article Good (economics and accounting) to get ideas on how to expand it appropriately. -- Antaeus Feldspar 14:48, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
