From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tantric Jazz Cafe Bar and Restaurant is situated in St Nicholas Street in central Bristol, UK. Opened in 2001, it is well-known for presenting a wide range of musical styles from jazz to blues to soul music.

It usually hosts live music seven nights per week and artists have included Jamie Cullum who attended the weekly jazz jam session and hosted his own gigs there before being spotted and promoted by the owner prior to his first recording contract.

The house band, Tantra, is led by bassist Mike Wilsh who was once a member of The Four Pennies.

Tantric is also known for running events for the Bristol Hippodrome, often hosted by Tantra or other local musicians such as Nick Langston. These nights have included the cast of Mary Poppins - The Musical, Jerry Springer - The Opera, and High Society. Cast members attending these events have included Antonio Fargas, Shane Ritchie, Laura Michelle Kelly, Julian Clary, Rolf Saxon and many others and it is not unusual for impromptu performances to happen.

Notable musicians who have performed at Tantric in recent years include Andy Kinsman, Kevin Figes and Kizzy Morrell.
