Tanner De Witt has grown rapidly since it was founded in 1999 by Richard Tanner and its managing partner Ian De Witt to become one of the most highly regarded law firms in Hong Kong. Its legal practice is divided into nine core areas, including corporate and commercial, commercial litigation, insolvency, construction law, insurance law, employment law, intellectual property, aviation law and tenancy law. De Witt says the firm has grown so much that "We hope to establish a presence on China's mainland soon" adding that "Shanghai is our preferred location - it seems like the natural progression for us as a firm."[1]
Clients include the Hong Kong Government, international banks, accountancy and insurance firms, international airlines, international construction companies, media and investment companies as well as local enterprises and individuals. Its key clients include Virgin Airlines, International Air Transport Association (IATA), Pirelli Cables, KPMG and SmartTrust.

Tanner De Witt provide legal services to charities, including acting for Amnesty International Hong Kong in securing an employment visa for the human rights organisation's director in 2006. The firm has also supported the work of Domestic and Migrant Workers, a charitable body established to assist those from overseas who work in Hong Kong, and Enlighten Hong Kong, a charitable organisation whose mission is to widen opportunities and choices for people affected by epilepsy and to raise awareness of epilepsy issues in all sectors of the community.

- In 2004 Tanner De Witt was awarded Asian Legal Business Hong Kong Boutique Law Firm of the Year, and in the subsequent two years was nominated for Hong Kong Law Firm of the Year. It was also nominated for Legal Business Awards 2007 Asia Pacific Firm of the Year.
