Tang Shuyu

Tang Shuyu (唐叔虞) founded the state of Tang, the predecessor to Jin, a state in ancient China founded during the Western Zhou and extending into the Spring and Autumn Period. He was the son of King Wu of Zhou and the younger brother of King Cheng of Zhou. During King Cheng's rule, the people of the Tang territory (present day Yicheng County, Linfen City, Shanxi) revolted. The Duke of Zhou, who was acting as regent for the young King Cheng, conquered Tang and enfeoffed it to Tang Shuyu.

Tang Shuyu's son, Xiefu (燮父) also known as Marquis Xie of Jin (晉侯燮), moved the capital near the Jin river, thus changing the name of the state to Jin.
