Tancredi Pasero (January 11, 1893, Turin - February 17, 1983, Milan) was an Italian bass, particularly associated with the Italian repertory, he enjoyed a long and distinguished career largely based in Italy.
Pasero studied with the baritone Arturo Pessina in Turin, and made his debut there, in 1917, as Ramphis in Aida, although he always considered his official operatic debut to have been in Vicenza, on December 15, 1918, as Rodolfo in La Sonnambula.
He made guest appearances at London, Paris, Barcelona, Berlin, Hamburg, Brussels, Buenos Aires. However La Scala in Milan, where he made his debut in 1926, would remain his main artistic anchor throughout his career.
He was a member of the Metropolitan Opera from 1929 until 1933, his roles there included: Oroveso, Raimondo, Miller, Ferrando, Fiesco, Padre Guardiano, Alvise, etc.
Pasero also enjoyed considerable success in Wagner 's roles (sung in Italian) such as Heinrich, Marke, Pogner, Hagen, Gurnemanz, as well as Mussorgski 's Boris.
He also participated in the creation of several operas, notably, Mascagni 's Nerone in Milan, and Pizzetti 's Orseolo in Florence.
Pasero retired from the stage in 1950, he was widely regarded as having one of the most beautiful bass voices of his period, alongside Ezio Pinza. He can be heard in two historical complete recordings; Norma (1937) and La forza del destino (1941).
