Tan is a brownish, tawny color. The name is derived from tannum, or crushed oak bark, that is used in the process for tanning leather. The resulting process often produces a hide with a 'tan' hue.
The first recorded use of tan as a color name in English was in the year 1590. [1]

- Tan is the color of the United States Army Rangers beret.
- People with tan auras are said to be cautious practical thinkers who pay attention to detail, are financially responsible and, it is claimed, may be found in professions such as engineers, architects, accountants, or computer programmers.[2]
- Tan is a popular color for loafers.
