The person in the picture is Shizuichi Tanaka, a famous commander of Imperial Japanese Army in days of World War II. Source Book, "Hitohakengun" just describe him as Tanaka Gun Shireikan and show no more explanation. But according to Jawp article of Japanese Army Uniform, he is wearing a uniform called Showa 5 type or M90 and an epaulette of lieutenant-general. So This picture considered to be actually taken between July 1938 to Sep. 1943.
旧日本軍の司令官、田中静壱の写真。出典元である『比島派遣軍』によれば田中軍司令官としか書かれていないが、軍服 (大日本帝国陸軍)#明治45年制式によれば、昭和五年式の軍服で中将の肩章があることから昭和13年7月-昭和18年9月頃の撮影と考えられるとのことである。
