Welcome to the assessment department of Tambayan Philippines! This department focuses on identifying and assessing the quality of Wikipedia's articles about or related to the Philippines. While much of the work is done in conjunction with the Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Assessment program, the article ratings are also used within the project itself to aid in recognizing excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work.
Identifying articles that are Philippine-related and thus under the scope of the Tambayan Philippines is done by tagging the articles with the {{WPPhilippines}} project banner. The assessment ratings are done by supplying the parameters of the {{WPPhilippines}} project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in the appropriate sub-categories of Category:Philippine-related articles by quality and Category:Philippine-related articles by importance, which serves as the foundation for an automatically generated worklist.
Any participant of the Tambayan Philippines is free to add—or change—the rating of an article. If you want to request that an article be rated, please suggest it at the talk page. If you don't agree with a rating, you can also request that it be reassessed at the talk page.

[edit] Instructions
A Wikipedia article can be tagged as being Philippine-related, and thus under the scope of the Tambayan Philippines WikiProject, by adding the {{WPPhilippines}} project banner template in the article's talk page at the top. Sometimes, an article is tagged to be under the scope of multiple WikiProjects so the template code should be placed next to other such project banners. If the banners are collapsible, a "nested=yes
" parameter should be added to the template code. For guidance on how to identify which articles are Philippine-related, please see the scope guidelines section below.
An article's assessment rating is generated by specifying the class and importance parameters in the {{WPPhilippines}} template:
- {{WPPhilippines| class= | importance= }}
The class parameter gauges the quality of the article and can take either of the following values whose meanings are found in the class guidelines section below:
- FA A GA B Start Stub <blank>
The importance parameter guages the necessity of the article for a space-limited hypothetical Philippine print encyclopedia and can take either of the following values whose meanings are found in the importance guidelines section below:
- Top High Mid Low <blank>
[edit] Guidelines
In general, articles that are Philippine-related are easy to identify. These include places in the Philippines, Filipinos, Filipino-related cultural topics, Philippine institutions and organizations and companies, events in Philippine history, etc.
But there should be no indiscriminate tagging of articles just because they are related to the Philippines. For example, while coconut is a major crop product of the Philippines, it would make no sense if every other country WikiProject whose country produces coconuts would also tag the coconut article. A valid Philippine-related article is Coconut industry in the Philippines. Another example is the mobile phone article: the general article should not be under the scope of the Tambayan Philippines WikiProject, but an article on Mobile communications in the Philippines is a valid article.
More examples. While United Nations has the Philippines as a member, it makes no sense for that article to be under the scope of all the member country WikiProjects. The article on ASEAN would arguably be under the scope of the Philippines WikiProject since the country is a founding member and there are currently 10 member countries, making country tagging less nonsensical. The article on Asian Development Bank is also arguably Philippine-related: while there are more than 60 member-states under the bank, its headquarters is located in the Philippines and half of its staff is Filipino.
As a rule of thumb, if an article can conceivably be tagged as related to too many countries, do not tag it as part of the Tambayan Philippines WikiProject, unless the position of the Philippines in relation to that article is quite prominent.
