[edit] Airlines and Destinations
[edit] Virgin Blue
Alongside more than 21 other destinations, including the nearby Armidale Airport, Tamworth Airport was looked at by Virgin Blue for the commencement of services to/from Sydney using its new Embraer aircraft. With the airport being the seventh busiest airport in terms of passenger numbers to/from Sydney, the likelihood of Virgin Blue launching flights to Tamworth is uncertain, as flights have not yet been announced to the 4rd or 5th (Wagga and Dubbo) busiest ports. However, flights have been launched to Port Macquarie, the sixth busiest destination. Virgin Blue are progressively launching services with their new E170 aircraft with E190 aircraft routes not yet announced.
[edit] Tiger Airways
Tiger Airways has indicated that it could potentially fly to Tamworth from its Melbourne base using its A319 aircraft [1]. Although nothing has yet been confirmed, Tamworth has been flagged as a possible destination for services due to the cost and time it takes for people to get between Melbourne and Tamworth and that there is currently no competition at the airport. They state that the people of Tamworth, and of other regional cities are "crying out" for a low cost revolution. The airline would be the first to commercially popularise the route between the city and Melbourne.
