Tampico (song)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Tampico" is a popular song.

It was written in 1945 by Gene Roland and produced by Stan Kenton

The song gave June Christy a top-ten hit in the Summer and Autumn of 1945, peaking at #6 on the Billboard 100.

The song takes a satirical look at the Mexican city of its title, suggesting that at the time, Tampico, Tamaulipas, had become more American than the U.S. itself, and that many of the souvenirs which could be bought there had been manufactured in the United States.
