Tamnamore Primary School

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tamnamore Primary School is a primary school located near Dungannon, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. It is situated on the outskirts of Tamnamore village, about five miles from Dungannon. The pupils come from the local area. It is a state controlled school for girls and boys aged from 3 to 11 and has 50 pupils. It is within the Southern Education and Library Board area. As you can see from the enrolment numbers below Tamnamore Primary School has a small number of pupils attending. The SELB is forcing it to join Killyman Primary School, work is currently being carried out at Killyman to make the school capable of having about thirty extra pupils. Many parents were opposed to the school being closed as there is a family atmosphere in the school which would be lost when it becomes much bigger. Due to the school's small number everyone knows everyone and the is very little or no bullying. The pupils from Tamnamore will be bussed to Killyman after the amalgamation.

  • Enrolment: 57 in 1997-98, 53 in 2000-01, 48 in 2001-02, 48 in 2002-03, 44 in 2003-04, 33 in 2004-05
  • Address: 151 Tamnamore Road, Dungannon, BT71 6HW

On 27 September 2006 the Southern Education and Library Board announced that consultation would begin on a draft development proposal for the closure of the school on 31 August 2007 or as soon as possible thereafter.

A wide range of extra-curricular activities were available and included sports, a chess club, French lessons and cycling proficiency.
