Tammie Souza is a meteorologist in Chicago, Illinois.
The four-time Chicago Emmy Award winner joined WFLD-Ch. 32's "Fox News in the Morning" in September 2006 (The morning news is now named "Good Day Chicago"). In the morning news she announces viewers' weather observations (temperature and rainfall reports) known as "Fox Weather Watchers" which you can send to her at tammie.souza@foxchicago.com.
Not a stranger to Chicago, Souza spent six years from 2000-2006 as the weekend meteorologist at WMAQ-NBC in Chicago. Tammie came to Chicago via WDJT-TV, the CBS station in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she held the position of chief meteorologist and was chosen "Best On-Air Personality". Prior to that she was the morning and noon meteorologist at KHSL-TV the CBS station in Chico, California.
"We're, of course, hoping that a lot of [Souza's] fans from 'MAQ come over here to watch her," said Andrew Finlayson, who's been WFLD's news director since the beginning of the year. "She's also expressed an interest in doing some severe-weather specials and that's something I've been interested in doing since I got here, but we needed to expand our staff."
Born in Pittsburgh and raised in San Diego, Souza is certified with both The CBM/AMS Seal from The American Meteorological Society and the NWA Seal from the National Weather Association and is a member of both organizations.
"She's one of the few women . . . who has both of those, the CBM/AMS and NWA [seals of approval], and we are seeking to build the best weather team that we can," Finlayson said. "She certainly has all of the qualifications."
Souza has been nominated for a Best Weathercast Emmy each of the past 4 years and received a 2005 Chicago Emmy for Best Weathercast, a 2006 Chicago Emmy for Best Science and Weather Report and 2 Chicago Emmys for her work on WMAQ's auto show specials.
Notable weather stories covered include the Blizzard of 1999, the deadly 2004 Utica Tornado, the devastating 2003 wildfires in San Diego, a series of special reports about Lake Michigan and Climate Change in Chicago including a report while scuba diving on a shipwreck in Lake Michigan.
Souza has visited over 400 schools in the Chicago area with her interactive weather presentation "Weather With Class". She has written a column of weather factoids for several local newspapers and is also active with numerous local charities.
She was an exchange student to Japan and chosen as a good will ambassador to both Mexico and Portugal (the name Souza is Portuguese and Spanish).
Spare time and hobbies include skiing, scuba diving, flying, gardening, gourmet cooking, cake decorating, hiking, boating, fishing, never ending remodeling projects and spending time with her husband and pets.
Souza's sister Patty Souza is also a meteorologist at KXTV-ABC in Sacramento, California. They are the only siblings nationwide that deliver weather on television.
