Mir Tamim Ansary (b. November 4, 1948, in Kabul, Afghanistan) is an Afghan American author and speaker. He is the author of West of Kabul, East of New York, a book published shortly after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Ansary was born in Afghanistan and lived there until high school, when he won a scholarship to an American boarding school, Colorado Rocky Mountain School. He later attended Reed College in Portland, Oregon. Ansary gained prominence in 2001, after he penned a widely circulated e-mail that denounced the Taliban and called on the U.S. to bring positive political change to Afghanistan (see link below). Ansary was compelled to write the e-mail in response to a call to bomb Afghanistan "into the Stone Age." West of Kabul, East of New York is a literary memoir that recounts his bicultural perspective on current world conflicts.
Tamim Ansary lives in San Francisco with his wife. They have two daughters.
