Tamer Hassan (born March 18, 1968) is an English actor. He starred in two of director Nick Love's movies: The Business and The Football Factory.
Tamer was born in London, England into a Turkish-Cypriot family. His roots are from New Cross, where he practised his street wise skills in boxing and football. Having had an injury in boxing, turned his talents to running nightclubs, restaurants and is now the Owner, Chairman, Coach and Player of both Greenwich Borough Football Club and also Eltham Boxing Gym. Both of which have produced such talents as Henry Cooper and Ian Wright. Tamer's charity work for his community is what makes him turn from the 6ft 4 hardman, to absolute putty in the hundreds of children hands he deals with on a daily basis
2008 will see no less than five movies set for release. Tamer will be seen on the big screen in Cass, City Rats, Goal 3, and the re-launch of Hammer House Films Beyond the Rave. It was Tamer's role as loveable rogue Charlie in the British film feature The Business that launched Tamer as a film heavyweight. His most notorious role is as Millwall Fred in the screen adaptation of the much acclaimed John King novel, The Football Factory.
In 2007, Tamer opened the 71st London Film Festival with the premiere of box office hit Eastern Promises alongside Viggo Mortensen and Naomi Watts, directed by David Croninberg. Tamer is fast becoming a regular in Hollywood, playing the lead role of Georgie in Unleashed, starring alongside Oscar winner Morgan Freeman, Jet Li and Bob Hoskins, and had a cameo role in Batman Begins. Tamer played opposite Jonathan Rhys Davies in The Ferryman, and took the title role in HBO's Hannibal the Great. Tamer was also a smash hit playing a psychotic boxer in Working Title's UK cult hit The Calcium Kid, starring opposite Orlando Bloom, and he worked with Ken Stott and Jack Dee in Spivs and appeared in Layer Cake opposite Daniel Craig.
He is participated in the annual televised charity football tournament, Premier League All Stars, which is also televised nationally, playing for West Ham United, despite being a supporter of arch enemy Millwall. Hassan grabbed the third goal, scoring with a calm finish, in the 4-0 win over Reading. In the quarter final against Wigan Athletic he was sent off after a scuffle involving John Moncur and Paul Tonkinson.
He now lives in London, England.
