Tamahome (鬼宿) is a character is the anime and manga series Fushigi Yūgi.
First portrayed as greedy and only seems to want to help out when he is paid, later on in the series it is revealed that he only acts greedy for a special cause. He is tough on the inside, but also very shy. He fell in love with Miaka after she confessed her love to him and was struck ill. He sacrifices himself for the sake of others, and won't back down against an enemy. He is in love with Miaka. Their love transcends worlds. He cares for all the Suzaku-seishi and is deeply wounded when some of them die. In the OVA Season 1 3rd episode, he is reborn in Miaka's world as Taka Sukunami.

Kyūen Sō (琮 Sou Kyuuen?)
- Tamahome's father. After illness left him incapacitated, Tamahome became the main breadwinner. He's a very kind man, and very generous, even though he doesn't have much to give.
Yūgetsu Sō (琮 Sou Yuugetsu?)
- Tamahome's mother. She died giving birth to Yuiren when Tamahome was twelve-years-old. She was a gentle woman who loved all her children and died in peace knowing Tamahome would be able to care for his siblings and father. [1]
Chūei Sō (琮 忠栄 Sou Chuuei?)
- The second son. 12 years old. While Tamahome's out earning money, Chuuei's the one to make sure the fields are tended too and that his younger siblings are looked after.
Gyokuran Sō (琮 玉蘭 Sou Gyokuran?)
- Tamahome's 9 year old sister. Her common quirk both in the manga and anime, is asking women if they're Tamahome's wife.
Shunkei Sō (琮 春敬 Sou Shunkei?)
- The 7 year old son. Not known is much about Shunkei other than he misses his brother just as much as his other siblings do.
Yuiren Sō (琮 結蓮 Sou Yuiren?)
- The baby Yuugetsu died giving birth to five years prior to the story line. She was primarily raised by Tamahome, so she's very special to him even though he loves all his siblings. [2]

On the outside he is very chipper, and that leads to some comic expressions, but he is tough on the inside. On the other hand, he is very shy. (He had to become stoic for his family's sake. On the other hand, Tamahome sometimes may get a bit vain about himself, however mostly only for comic relief or to try to get himself out of an embarrassing or tricky situation.) That is why he was hard on Miaka at first. He sacrifices himself for the sake of others, and won't back down against an enemy. All these, however, make his personality one of the most complex among the Suzaku Seven. He is in love with Miaka. Their love transcends worlds. Tamahome can hear Miaka if she calls his name, i.e she is in trouble. Tamahome is a very sincere and good person in general and wouldn't hesitate to save another person's life.
