Tama Matheson is a New Zealand / Australian stage, television and film actor and director best known for his association with 4MBS Festival of Classics.

Living for many years in the U.K. he appeared extensively in various Shakespeare productions and on television in Eastenders and Heartbeat. He is the son of international conductor John Matheson and brother of classical pianist and conductor Tahu Matheson.

Tama Matheson has worked as an actor and director both in Australia and England. His theatre credits include Romeo in Romeo and Juliet and Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (R.J.Williamson Theatre Company); Sergeant Troy in Far From the Madding Crowd (Middle Ground Theatre); Haemon in Antigone (Triangle Productions); Iago in Othello, Orlando in As You Like It, Shylock in The Merchant of Venice (Brasenose Quadrangle), and Theseus and Flute in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (O.U.D.S); and, lately, A Christmas Carol with 4MBS.

His television credits include Heartbeat and Eastenders, and, most recently, a documentary-drama for the Townsville Museum! As a director he has worked at Covent Garden, as assistant to Franco Zeffirelli (I Pagliacci), and Elijah Moshinsky (Lohengrin); as well as with the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company, assistant to Ian Judge (The Mikado) and Stuart Maunder (Pirates of Penzance). His own directing credits include Antigone and A Christmas Carol and A Soiree of Poetry.

For the Shakespeare On Oxford Festival 2007 Tama will be directing and starring in A Midsummer Night's Dream. The cast includes Tama as Oberon, Francesca Savige as Titania and Nick Backstrom as Bottom along with Steven Tandy, Vanja Matula, Nikki J. Witt, Nigel Poulton, Brett Heath, Dragitsa Debert and David Knijnenburg.
