Tam mak hung (Laos) is a spicy salad made from green papaya. "Tam" means pound and "mak hung" means papaya. The dish is prepared in a deep mortar using a pestle. The ingredients include green papaya, peppers, garlic, lime or lemon, cherry tomatoes, shrimp paste, fish sauce, and padaek (pickled fish). It is served with water spinach, cabbage, or other vegetables.
