[edit] See also
Why a See also in disambiguation page? Because often the searcher is using a simple search term rather than a complex one, and the category pages are not always useful. For example if the searcher were looking for Tamil script, they might search for 'Tamil' just thinking of the language and the script as one, but they would have to read halfway down the Tamil language article to find the reference to the Tamil script article. Similarly, they may have heard some dishes referred to Tamil (as an adj.) but be unaware that the Wikipedia uses the convention '(blank) cuisine' for ethnic cooking. Bejnar 20:17, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
- But, where do we draw the line? In my view, some prose can be added on the use of the term as an adjective; it's an important missing piece. Thanks for pointing out. But, cuisine etc., do not seem to be convinving examples. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 06:21, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Important
Could someone else add to tamil and remember tamil is a langauge and I know that because I am a tamil.
[edit] Not an article
This page is not an article, it is a cross reference. Information about Tamil language and Tamil people belongs on those pages, not here. That includes external links. I still believe that the see also references are useful, because there is no other easy way to get to them. Bejnar 19:26, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Not an article - Quotes
I agree also that is isn't an article but it should become an article of external links, references, notes, facts, quotes and pictures. --Pendotigers 07:28, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- I respectfully disagree. Linguistic material can be presented in the appropriate articles as can pictures. This is an encyclopedia, not a Tamil fest. I deleted the quotes in accordance with disambiguation policy. Bejnar 16:43, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
- Dear Bejnar. I do agree in what you said except a few things such as you took away the quotes section. Why? Also any external link should put on this page as well the relevant articles.--Pendotigers 07:38, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- I reaffirm that external links are inappropriate on a disambiguation page, see below. The reason that I deleted the quotations is that a disambiguation page IS NOT, I repeat IS NOT, an article. Quotes normally belong in the sister project Wikiquote. Rarely should quotations be used in Wikipedia articles. As it says in Wikipedia:Guide to layout: "Quotes are generally moved to Wikiquote and the Quotations section as a whole is replaced with a {{wikiquote}} badge, usually placed at the top of the "External links" section." Bejnar 04:24, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- Dear Bejnar what do you mean as a tamil fest. Tamil festival. Please write full real words please. Thankyou. --Pendotigers 07:39, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- Please read the guideline at Wikipedia:Disambiguation and the Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages). By 'Tamil fest' I meant an opportunity to display all of the possible uses, links and culture of the Tamil, as if one were at a party. In my dialect of English 'fest' is a whole word. See Party at Wiktionary. I apologize for using a rare word when a clear description was needed. What I am trying to say is that the only material that belongs on the Tamil disambiguation page is material that directs the reader to an appropriate article in the Wikipedia. Bejnar 04:24, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] References to external links
I have changed the references to external link as the links are not in the article anywhere else. My fault. If it wasn't changed then there would have been a tag saying this article did not cite its references.--Pendotigers 06:04, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
- This is not an article, it is a disambiguation page. I am pretty sure that the external links do not belong here at all. They belong in the appropriate articles. Bejnar 03:44, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- On 23 October 2006 Khoikhoi expressed his opinion by deleting the external links. As there has been no reasoned argument for them, that seems appropriate. Bejnar 20:28, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
I do not agree fully with 'Bejnar' and 'Khoikhoi'. Most of these external links are not mentioned in other articles making it independent. Independent articles should be put in these articles. I hope my message is passed across.--Pendotigers 09:52, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- Comment If the former external links appropriately belong to other articles, put them there. If they appropriately belong to an article that does not yet exist, write that article. If they are inappropriate for the Wikipedia, then it is okay that they remain unmentioned. Bejnar 15:28, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Immigrants
Everyone is an immigrant, it is just a question of date. Earlier people in Kandy or Serendip or Ceylon or Sri Lanka appear to have been more closely related to the Andaman and Nicobar islanders. They are believed to be extinct on the island. Bejnar 21:56, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Comments on the Requests section
To shaped our discussion page, to make it organised and to make it more easier to find requests. I have created a request section full of requests related to this section so if u have any requests for this article or a checklist to improve it place your requests.Pendotigers 09:56, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Make this article have a translation of tamil.Pendotigers 09:56, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- This is a disambiguation page. It is not the place for article material. If you want to start a Wikipedia:Project called Tamil, do so. This is not the place. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals for proposing a project. --Bejnar 01:47, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
- Bejnar, i meant the disambiguation page and also there can be requests like removing links and so on.Pendotigers 13:06, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Requests
To improve this disambiguation page, please write your suggestions and requests here. They will be crossed out when completed. If there is a comment on the request there will a dash next to the request placing the positive remarks, ideas in relation of it or disagreement with the request and must have your signature after every edit on the section. Thank you Pendotigers 13:14, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
Here is a template of the set out.
Template: * Make more pictures on the page, signature- I disagree with this as we have enough pictures, signature
- Make this article have a translation of tamil Pendotigers 13:24, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Stop
I still don't think that Pendotigers understands the difference between an article and a disambiuguation page. Disambiguation pages don't have translations, don't have pictures, don't have external links, don't have references, and don't have any substantive content. If you are interested in Tamils and Tamil culture, then start a Tamil Wikipedia Project, see above. This talk page is about a disambiguation page. --Bejnar 23:30, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
Sorry my mistake, I agree with bejnar. As I am still a new user I am still learning. I now see the difference and so we will need no requests section. Thank you, --Pendotigers 09:23, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
